Shen Mi Zi (Mystic Sisters Lake) is situated to the North of Yulong Village about 10 miles from Lijiang, Yunnan, China. It once served as a sacred site where villagers performed their annual sacrifice to heaven. In 2006, I spent approximately one month inhabiting the site simply by walking it, by counting my steps and by noting their direction. The track circles two interconnected lakes. Tracks are the oldest architecture made by man and arise out of a dialogue between our physicality and nature. My encounter with this site gave rise to many questions, which I have been trying to address ever since, see the three projects generated since by this encounter.
